This comprehensive course equips school psychologists with the knowledge, tools, and strategies necessary to effectively support students who identify with the LGBTQIA+ community, including how to promote gender inclusivity schoolwide and how to address specific needs of LGBTQIA+ students when providing services. Content includes best practices related to gender inclusive language; factors to consider when working with LGBTQIA+ students, including professional responsibility, federal and state laws and regulations, risk factors, and family and culture; effective strategies to enhance the success of LGBTQIA+ students, including protective factors, schoolwide inclusivity, affirmative counseling, and family engagement; as well as recommendations related to advocacy and community resources and organizations.
